What is Boots of Norway?
Boots of Norway is, first of all, a social platform where people gather around country music. It's also a place for people to pick up on new music and for artists to ask for free promotion. In 2021 Boots of Norway will also be the name of a radio show. Stay tuned!
One of the goals Boots of Norway has is to create connections. BON wants to build bridges between nations, connecting songwriters, connect artists to producers, connect songwriters and artists.
Boots also wants to connect with other promoters and make an amazing network for sharing country music, creating a massive audience.
I hope that by working together, a community will appear. Teamwork only makes people better.
About the Country music scene in Norway
We love country music! Norway has got long traditions for country music. According to a research done in 2018(TONO), 1/5 Norwegians have country as their favorite genre. That equals one million countryfans! Actually, Brad Paisley and Alan Jackson also have their own albums with Norwegian favorites only released in Norway. Norway is also known for being great supporters of independent music.
We have several popular country festivals!
Radio p10Country(Covers only mainstream), has got 40.000 weekly listeners. The internett radio "Norsk Country Radio" is in the biggest growth the last year, 15 years since it first got started.
Most Norwegians are really into traditional country, but the modern country have really kicked off, especially since the start of "p10", only a few years ago.
In Norway these days, we have a huge wave of "Nordicana". It's Norwegian artists that sings Americana. Some have even been spotlighted in huge magazines like the Billboard magazine.

Started as a music reviewer and promoter in 2019. Teamed up with the amazing owner and host of Norwegian Country radio Tore Haaland, who served as as a mentor and advicer. (www.norskcountry.net)

Hva skal egentlig til for å lykkes?
Litt om starten til BON, Boots forteller...
For noen år siden oppdaget jeg en amerikansk artist på instagram. Jeg virkelig elsket musikken og stemmen. Jeg kunne ikke forstå hvorfor jeg ikke hadde hørt om denne artisten før. Det var faktisk sånn "Boots" begynte. Jeg ble fan, rett og slett. Hvordan jeg og denne artisten kom i snakk, husker jeg faktisk ikke. Men jeg ble dypt fascinert over denne artistens stå-på-vilje, tette skjema og utfordrende arbeidstimer. Artisten arbeidet med en av Nashvilles dyktigste produsenter, som har litt av en CV og vise til. I mine øyne hadde (og har) artisten alle forutsetninger for å lykkes og egentlig være kjent. Musikken ble jo til og med spilt på radio i USA.
Jeg tok kontakt med radio hjemme i Norge. "Takk for tipset!", fikk jeg til svar. Var det alt? Jeg ga meg ikke så lett. Måneden etterpå prøvde jeg igjen. Radioen var veldig hyggelig, og svarte noe sånn som at "Jeg har oppdaget denne artisten igjennom deg, men vi velger å være så kjipe og spille musikk som allerede er kjent.". Er det virkelig sånn det er å være artist, tenkte jeg. Hvordan klarer nye artister å bryte frem da? Og ja, min erfaring sier at det er sinnsykt mye som skal til for å bli "oppdaget" eller bli kjent nok.
Denne motgangen gjorde meg helt målløs, men samtidig ble jeg fyllt av beundring for disse artistene. Siden den gangen jeg ble kjent med min første independent artist, så har jeg oppdaget jeg en hel del. De legger sjelen sin i arbeidet og legger det frem for publikum for at vi skal dømme det. Sånn er det vel å være kunstner.
Jeg har oppdaget mange ildsjeler i denne bransjen. Jeg har funnet radioer som vil spille musikken. Og jeg har fått kontakter med podcaster i Skandinavia og i USA. Jeg har fått lov å ta del i musikksamfunnet og fått sett innsiden av alt det fine publikum ser. Boots Of Norway er noe jeg brenner for. Jeg virkelig elsker å formidle det jeg elsker selv, og å støtte opp om artistene. Å få lov til å hjelpe mennesker med å nå drømmer er noe av det vakreste jeg vet. Det nei-et jeg fikk av radioen skulle vise seg å bli en stor velsignelse, en start på denne reisen.
Tanken slo meg etterhvert. Jeg vil lage et samlingspunkt. Jeg vil formidle disse usignerte, ukjente countryartistene, mange av dem mine venner, og lage en platform som disse kan ha fritt spillerom, om de er fra USA, Skandinavia eller en helt annen plass på jorda. Om de har 200 000 lyttere på Spotify eller 200. Eller om de ikke har egen musikk enda.
Et sted begynner det for alle!

Selv om vi formidler musikken til de store artistene, tilhører allikevel siden i størst grad til independent artister, altså de uten label eller platekontrakt.
